...

I post this video to excite a discussion. Elaborate on whether this act was appropriate, viable, timely, etc. or if it was simply just an act that serves no greater significance. Let me hear your thoughts...

  1. Well JC, I feel that what Kanye did is justified by the norms of the business in which he is a part of. All he did was display a portion of the ignorance that the music industry has turned into. Until the late 90's, you only saw this ignorance in Music Moguls(Record Company Owners). It used to be that the owner was the "jack***" and the artist were people with heart, compassion, and respect, for themselves, other artists, and their fans. Today, this cycle of self-interest and MY profit has turned into a flaming ball of fire lit with jet fuel.

T-Bell...it's just my opinion; but you have to love it

  2. Man Kanye was just standing up for black people. We all know they only gave Taylor Swift the award for that video becuase she is white! Kanye was right! Beyonce's video was better! I applaud Kanye on having the BALLS to say it!

  3. lol man Kanye is the Man yea it was wrong but, you gotta give him real points, bc sometimes MTV doesnt give Black artist the recognition they deserve.

But at the same time in the famous words of The Boondocks "You just witnessed a nigger moment"

  4. I can definitely honor an individual who has the effrontery to support a reason they believe, as long as there IS a reason. This, however, seems fathomed. Since when was racial discrimination, particularly to blacks, an issue among recent American pop culture, specifically MTV?

  5. I live in Kentucy for now and I think the racial tension in this country is highlighted in this act of defiance, along with the Serena Williams and Joe Wilson incidents. A blonde hair, blue eyes white All-American white girl getting her glory and shine taken by a loud, opinionated African American male. He reinforced whites stereotypes of us and what they are trying to make our president out to be. New age racism.

However, in knowing how these award shows work, I can see how Taylor Swift actually won the female video of the year. There is a time and a place for everything. Kanye has many platforms in which he could have given his opinion on the incident, but he chose to do it on stage while she is accepting her award. Now he is suffering the consequences for it. Do I feel bad for him? No. Not at all. Do I think he set blacks back a few years? Yes he did. We are on a platform now and white people are watching our every move now. We have to do better!
